Workshops 2021

Scales don't have to be boring!

Date - 15th February 2021

Cost £10

Grades 1 to 5 - 10am - 11am*

Grade 6 to 8 - 11.30am - 12.30pm*

Adults - 2pm-3pm

Tutor - Rachel Broadbent

*for students 18 years and under.

This mini workshop is to help oboists with scales. Many students struggle with scales and Rachel has come up with a variety of different ways to help students practise and learn their scales. These are creative ways to help them become interesting and not just something that has to be done for an exam. The workshop will be a way for students to try out new ways of learning their scales in a way that becomes fun! Students will at no point be tested on whether they can play their scales and when trying out the new ideas we will have to have microphones off so no one will know if they are playing wrong notes. The adult scales workshop will be a little more open with discussions about what you find challenging and finding solutions along with trying new scale techniques. So, lets get creative and make those scales interesting and engaging so they don't become ... ugh scales! This workshop will have a follow up document with details of the different ideas that were used so students can refer to it in the future.
